Here at Mini First Aid, we have a team of 50 fantastic franchisees across the UK who train around 800 parents every week in life-saving first aid.

This week we are talking to Jodie who runs Mini First Aid Hull about why she joined us and what she loves about her job.

How did you first hear about Mini First Aid?

I saw it mentioned in a local Facebook group where Kate was advertising her classes.  I was working as a support worker for young adults with learning difficulties and, whilst I enjoyed my job, I wanted something with more autonomy and flexibility.

How did you decide to buy a Mini First Aid franchise?

I had always been interested in first aid and, when I met Kate and she told me that she was looking to expand, I knew it was what I wanted to do.  I applied for a business loan to buy the franchise and the rest is history!

When I joined in 2015 there were only 2 other franchises, so it did feel like a bit of a leap of faith.  Now we have 50 franchisees across the UK and the business is really well established, so it’s nice to have been part of it from the beginning and to have watched it grow.

What do you enjoy most about working for Mini First Aid?

I love the flexibility of being able to choose my own hours – if I want some time off, I reduce my classes, or if I want to increase my income, I can put on more.  I was doing 5 classes every week at one point, although I’ve reduced that now as I wanted more time with my children.

The best thing about Mini First Aid is that I feel like I am part of a family. There is a fantastic support network and there is always someone at the end of the phone if I need any help or have a question. I now help to support new franchisees with their launch classes so it’s great to give something back.

What are the benefits of being a franchisee?

I did think about setting up on my own, but I find that being part of a bigger business is invaluable.  If I have a quieter week, I always know that there will be a marketing campaign or competition organised by our Head Office that will generate more interest in my classes.  I know I wouldn’t get as many customers if I was doing this by myself.

How has joining Mini First Aid affected you personally?

I’ve definitely developed more confidence since joining Mini First Aid – I am now a regular on my local radio station whenever they want to talk to a first aid expert, and videos of my classes appear on the company website.  I couldn’t have imagined doing those things a few years ago!

Finally, what would you say to someone who was thinking about joining Mini First Aid?

Just do it!  It’s a no brainer and you won’t regret it!
